I'm new to making knives and I'm contemplating what I should do in for my knife handle. I ordered some CHAKTE KOK (Redheart) scales and I'm currently waiting for it to come in the mail.
I know that some people use things like Cactus Juice to stabilize wood. At what point do you decide to do so for your wooden handles / scales? Is it something I should be doing for all of my wooden handles or only certain kinds of brittle / porous / delicate woods? I know people who just avoid the issue and go with Micarta or G10, but.. I like the way the wood looks.

How To Stabilize Wood Knife Scales
Hi all, quick question on stabilizing wood for scales - I am very new to knifemaking and since I am easing into it, I am starting with making scales for knives I already have before progressing to working with metal. I am wondering if wooden scales need to be stabilized before being used on a knife. The particular application is for an EDC folder, I have the scales cut and sanded to be mounted to the frame but am unsure if I should use a stabilizer before finishing the project, any guidance would be appreciated. If this is the case, suggestions of a good stabilizer would also be appreciated, amazon search brings up a minwax 'wood hardener' product first, seems well reviewed by users. If it matters, I am not staining, will probably just hit them with a coat or two of tung oil before mounting if stabilizing is not necessary. Thank you in advance.
