Sometimes, you need to get into your Acer Aspire's setup menu. There are several reasons this might be necessary, from fixing your computer's clock to making tweaks, so that a program will run more smoothly. Whatever the reason, you might need to access your Acer's BIOS, but getting into it can be tricky, because it requires you to hit the right keys at just the right time.

What Is the BIOS?
Acer Aspire 7520g Bioshock
The term BIOS stands for Basic Input/Output System. The BIOS controls your computer's startup process, and it launches Windows once all the required system checks have been performed. For example, the BIOS makes sure that all your computer's drivers and hardware are functioning properly. If there's an issue, the BIOS throws out an error, and either pauses the startup process or it finishes the startup and then provides an alert on your desktop. Driver errors are one reason that a person might need to access the BIOS on the Acer.
Discovering Your Acer's Bios Key

To get into any computer's bios, you have to know which key to press to get to the setup menu. The BIOS key for an Acer Aspire is F2; however, depending on the model of Aspire you have, you might be required to perform an extra step.
Power Off and Then Restart
Perform a complete shut down of your computer by pressing the Windows Key, clicking the power button and selecting 'Shut Down' from the menu. Once your computer has shut down and has turned itself off, wait a few seconds, and then turn the computer back on by pressing the power button.

Aspire Models: Quickly Hit F2
When the computer begins to reboot, start pressing the F2 key. This will pause the startup sequence, and will trigger the setup menu. Once the menu appears on the screen use the up, down, left and right arrow keys to navigate to the area you want to access.
Access the BIOS Key on an Aspire One
Pressing F2 might not work to access the setup menu, but hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del will pause the startup process and allow you to then press the F2 key to access the setup menu. You should try using just F2 first, but if it doesn't work, reboot and try the three-key process first. Once you have accessed the startup menu, navigate using the left, right, up and down arrow keys on your keyboard.
If All Else Fails, Call Acer Support
If neither of these processes launches the setup screen, contact Acer support for help. Also, going into a computer startup and changing BIOS settings can harm your computer's performance, so this task should be done only when necessary, and if you aren't sure of what to do, let an expert handle it.
